CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – Speaking to the press at the Hawkeye Area Labor Council Picnic on Monday, former Vice President and Presidential candidate Joe Biden broke new ground in the Democratic Party’s effort to push gun control measures on the American people.

Biden, with his wife at his side, said it is “mindless” that the United States doesn’t have a ban on gun magazines that hold multiple bullets.

“The idea that we don’t have elimination of assault type weapons, magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them is absolutely mindless,” said Biden. “It is no violation of the Second Amendment. It’s uh, it’s just a bow to the special interests of the gun manufacturers and the NRA. It’s got to stop.

Biden also said that allowing individuals to carry firearms in houses of worship, presumably referring to churches in the context of his reference to the Governor of Texas, Biden also appeared to call for a prohibition on guns in churches.

“It is irrational, with all due respect to the Governor of Texas, irrational what they’re doing,” Biden said, before recounting the latest details on a shooting in Texas.

Biden then went on to say, “And we’re talking about loosening access to have guns, be able to take them into places of worship. Store them in sch-, I mean, it’s just absolutely irrational.”

Later in the interview, Biden referenced polling data, saying he thought close to ninety percent of people thought something rational had to happen with regard to weapons.

Biden then went on to reiterate very clearly that having “assault weapons” on the streets and “magazines carrying multiple bullets is irrational.”

Asked if there was any compromise to be made with Republicans on guns, Biden said, “None! None on this. I think this is no compromise. This is one we have to just push and push and push and push and push.”

Biden also took a shot at President Trump, saying he has, “No intestinal fortitude to deal with this.”

News reports across the nation show many churches in the United States have taken to training congregants and allowing them to carry concealed firearms as a security measure. Biden’s comments, however, suggest he feels American churches should be made gun-free zones under the law.

The National Rifle Association tweeted the Biden video out in response, saying that, “He knows nothing about firearms or 2A.”

The NRA added, “Joe is an embarrassment.”

A ban on magazines that hold more than one round would render virtually all law enforcement firearms illegal, along with many sport rifles and most handguns available for sale in the United States.
