The Maine Department of Labor reports that Maine’s 23 months with an unemployment rate below 4% is the second longest period of low unemployment in 40 years.
Maine’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in August, below the national unemployment rate of 4.4 percent and New England average unemployment rate of 4.0 percent.
Maine’s employment to population ratio estimate of 61.7 percent maintained a position above the national average of 60.1 percent.
Maine DOL also reported that the nonfarm payroll jobs estimate was up 2,700 over the past year.
