East Millinocket – An attempted late morning traffic stop for erratic driving in East Millinocket on Friday August 9th led to the arrest of a man who was illegally present in the United States.

According to a Facebook post from the East Millinocket Police Department, Cpl. Bradley  Fitzgerald responded to a call that a Ryder box truck was driving erratically on Main Street in East Millinocket. The report says that the truck did not immediately stop, traveling a short additional distance before finally coming to a stop.

The driver, Belisario Cortazar-De La Cruz, presented only a Mexico ID and was determined not to possess a Maine drivers license or a drivers license from any other state. It was also determined that while Cortazar-De La Cruz had been living in Connecticut, he was not residing legally in the United States.

Cpl. Fitzgerald then requested assistance from U.S. Border Patrol. Additional investigation by Cpl. Fitzgerald and Border Patrol agents determined Cortazar-De La Cruz had entered the United States illegally in 2013 and had remained illegally since that time.

Cortazar-De La Cruz was charged with operating without a license before being turned over to U.S. Border Patrol for processing. Cortazar-De La Cruz is scheduled to face the operating without a license charge in October.
